Integrating Mind, Body, & Spirit
Have you ever been so stressed it made you physically sick? Or witnessed such beauty it felt like a spiritual experience? If you have, you’ve experienced a mind-body-spirit connection. The holistic approach to health and well-being involves bringing these three aspects of the self into balance to create health and happiness.
Sometimes a body can be broken but the spirit animating the person is alive and well and shining – we see and feel this person’s spirit so clearly! Alternatively, if a person’s spirit is broken, this also can be seen in their eyes, body, and how they speak; we can see and feel the disconnection too.
Those who have sat with a loved one as they take their last breath, will clearly see the moment their vital energy leaves the human body. The body immediately changes, because without chi, their body systems have stopped, their blood isn’t flowing, and their skin loses its color. The soul and spirit have left the body.
For health of body and mind it’s important to honor your spirit. Your spirit is unseen, but felt, it is your essence, your truth. To begin connecting body, mind and spirit, try this:
Pause from what you are doing and take 3-5 long, slow, deep breaths.
You’ll notice your body and mind immediately relaxing.
The ask yourself from this calmer state: How are you feeling mentally, emotionally, physically? See if you can notice any physical or mental tension.
When you’re ready, open your eyes. How do you feel now?
You probably feel a bit different, maybe more relaxed after that short exercise. That’s the mind helping the body relax and bringing the spirit back in connection.
